Korphe, which is a small substance farming village in northeastern Pakistan, is situated at the foot of the Karakoram mountan range along the banks of the Braldu River. Becuase of the work carried out by mountaineer Greg Mortenson and his Central Asia Institute (CAI), Korphe has achieved international attention which has specialized in raising money all over the world in order to provide good quality schooling for the children of Korphe and similar villages throughout the region, including Afghanistan. People in this area were initially using a rope bridge, which later was replaced by a cable bridge in order enable moving the building supplies across, and $10.000 was the amount raised for the construction of the bridge. After the construction of the bridge, a school was finally built in Korphe.
